White House pauses federal grants and loan disbursement

The White House has ordered a freeze on all federal grants and loans, which could impact billions and affect aid, nonprofits, universities, small business loans and local government grants.

In a internal memo, Matthew Vaeth, the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget wrote: «in the interim, to the extent permissible under applicable law, federal agencies must temporarily pause all activities related to obligation or disbursement of all federal financial assistance, and other relevant agency activities that may be impacted by the executive orders, including, but not limited to, financial assistance for foreign aid, nongovernmental organizations, DEI, woke gender ideology, and the green new deal».

The pause is slated to take effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday. It is the latest Trump’s adminitration move to have control over federal funding, even that which has añready been assigned by Congress.
