Pervis Estupiñán jugó su primer partido como titular en el Brighton Hove & Albion tras regresar de su lesión. El ecuatoriano arrancó en el 11 inicial en la victoria 3-2 sobre el Wolverhampton por la tercera ronda de la Copa de la Liga. Estupiñán jugó todo el partido, pero no lució en su mejor nivel.
El lateral izquierdo no estuvo tan participativo como otras veces y sufrió en defensa, más que nada en el segundo tiempo, cuando el Wolves creció. Aunque estuvo incisivo como siempre en ataque, no generó grandes opciones para que sus compañeros pudieran convertir.
Estupiñán formó parte de una alineación que teía mayoría de futbolistas suplentes. A los que el entrenador Fabian Hürzeler les dio minutos para que sumaran rodaje, uno de ellos es justamente el ecuatoriano, quien de a poco va acumulando tiempo en la cancha y espera recuperar su lugar en el rol titular.
Este es el tercer encuentro del jugador de La Tri con el Brighton desde que se recuperó de su dolencia. Había jugado ante el Arsenal en Premier League y contra el Crawley Town por la segunda ronda de la Copa de la Liga, en ambos duelos entró en los minutos finales.
Los goles del partido fueron convertidos por Carlos Baleba a los 14 minutos, Simon Adingra a los 31′ y Ferdi Kadioglu a los 85′ para los locales. Mientras que Gonzalo Guedes a los 44 minutos y Tommy Doyle a los 91′, descontaron para los visitantes.
Ahora, Las Gaviotas deberán esperar para conocer su rival en la siguiente fase, donde solo estarán 16 equipos. Moisés Caicedo se jugará el pase a esa instancia con el Chelsea, ante el Barrow, el próximo martes a las 13.45 (hora de Ecuador).(D)
