President Daniel Noboa has lifted the state of emergency in ten Ecuadorian provinces, ending restrictions imposed during last month’s nationwide protests against the removal of the diesel subsidy.
Through Executive Decree No. 189, Noboa repealed earlier decrees issued between September 16 and October 4, which had limited public gatherings and enforced curfews amid road blockades and clashes.
Signed in Guayaquil on October 26, the decree orders notification to the National Assembly, the Constitutional Court, and international bodies, including the UN and OAS.
Noboa thanked the police and armed forces for their actions during the unrest, saying they “defended the country and its sovereignty.”
