Pam Bondi seeks death penalty for Luigi Mangione

Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare.

Bondi said in a statement, «Luigi Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson — an innocent man and father of two young children — was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America,» and described the crime as «an act of political violence».

She directed Matthew Podolsky, the interim US attorney for the Southern District of New York, to seek the death penalty in the case if Mangione is convicted on capital murder charges.

Mangione is facing federal charges for stalking and murdering Thompson after he was shot outside a Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan on Dec. 4, 2024, but has not yet been indicted on those charges.
