Panamá y Paraguay cerraron su preparación para la Copa América. Ambos equipos tenían la oportunidad de hacer ajustes para encarar el torneo continental que se jugará en Estados Unidos. Y esta vez a la Albirroja le bastó con un gol para vencer al equipo local en el Estadio Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez.
El marcador reflejó lo que fue el partido: Paraguay tuvo momentos para sentenciar el juego pero las imprecisiones le cobraron factura. Mientras que los panameños tuvieron más oportunidades en la segunda mitad, pero la defensa rival y los errores en los últimos metros los dejaron sin poder agitar las redes. El único tanto paraguayo llegó al minuto 25 por parte de Gustavo Velázquez.
Para mala suerte del equipo local, en la recta final del partido algunos jugadores se resintieron, sobre todo se encendieron las alarmas con Aníbal Godoy, capitán de los panameños, que tuvo que salir de cambio.
Panamá no había tenido partidos amistosos porque disputó la segunda ronda de las Eliminatorias a Copa del Mundo de Concacaf. En Copa América se encuentra en el grupo C y debutará ante la selección de Uruguay el domingo 23 de junio a las 9:00pm ET (7:00pm MX). El resto del rivales del sector son Estados Unidos y Bolivia. Los pupilos de Thomas Christiansen tendrán su segunda participación en Copa América, la primera fue en 2016.
Por su parte, Paraguay disputó un total de tres partidos amistosos previo a Copa América, sumando el de Panamá, empató sin goles contra Perú y perdió 3-0 ante Chile.
La Albirroja se encuentra en el grupo D y debutará ante Colombia, el lunes 24 de junio a las 6:00pm ET (4:00pm MX). Los otros rivales son Brasil y Costa Rica.
